Designed for Rosenthal by one of the company's top design teams, Platt & Young, the pinball salt-and-pepper shakers enliven a table with a touch of the unexpected. The set consists of two shakers that nest together to form a sphere with a central post. One shaker approximates a doughnut shape in order to slip on and off the post shaker, which smoothly flares at the bottom to form a stable base. The doughnut shaker features a ring of holes for either salt or pepper, while the post is pierced with one hole at the top. The pinball shakers complement not only Rosenthal's all-white Gourmet Collection, but any number of dinnerware patterns that champion modern simplicity. Made of fine white porcelain, the shaker set makes an excellent gift for the design savvy, and is dishwasher-safe. --Ann Bieri
