Delicious, Perfect, Thick, Meringue-like Froth...Yet Perhaps Worthless December 22, 2008 The lid gets filled with liquid--which cannot be drained out--yet dribbles down the plunger rod into the froth mixture, rendering the frother a use-once-then-throw-away contraption.
I don't want rotten, moldy, germy liquid escaping the lid into my froth. Yuck!
This design flaw could be corrected if Bodum could insert a cylindrical, hollow rod inside the lid for the plunger rod to fit into. Then no liquid could escape into the lid as it plunges up and down--or as it is washed. Also it would be nice if the plunger rod could unscrew from the plunger knob--maybe then I could drain it? Maybe not.
The frother is small; only makes enough froth for two. It has no handle; it is easy to get burnt fingers and might slip from fingers while being cleaned.
If the bad-lid design could be corrected, I would give this frother 10 stars.
HOWEVER: Frother beautifully complements my Bodum Chambord French Press. The flask is easily cleaned with a small dishmop---so cute. I love this inexpensive/almost perfect little frother so much--I might have my husband drill some big holes in the inside of the lid so I can clean and drain it.
If by some chance your frother doesn't misbehave and dribble into your froth, here are my directions for perfect meringue-like froth: (I prefer to use soymilk)
You will need:
a) A wooden chopstick and/or a small, long spatula b) Low-fat milk or milk substitute (I use soymilk) c) Sugar or flavored syrup (optional) d) Prepared coffee, cocoa, ice cream, pie, smoothie etc.
To make froth:
1) Never fill above `fill line' 2) EITHER microwave liquid (without lid) for 60 seconds 3) OR use cold liquid for cold creations 4) Plunge gently for 5-8 seconds 5) Remove plunger 6) Add 1 tsp. Sugar or flavored syrup 7) Stir gently with chopstick 8) Let froth sit for 1 minute 9) Spoon out 'meringue-froth' onto your creation
Tastes/feels like soft, homemade marshmallow...Yummy.
steamy, frothy, smooooooth December 16, 2008 What puts this milk frother out in front of the competitor we have been using is the spout. You can pour out the frothed milk or half and half without lifting the piston. mmmmmm.
I'm sure this works, but you might not need it. November 15, 2008 I use my 3 c. Bodum Chambord Coffee Press to froth milk. It is basically the same concept: a glass carafe and a plunger with mesh. It makes a great foam. At any rate, if you already have a small coffee press, it can probably pull double-duty as a milk frother.
new product very inferior to original November 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently purchased a replacement chambord milk frother. My old one had a metal and plastic wheel on the bottom of the frother. It worked fabulously. I ordered a new[[ASIN:B000QEEI5I Bodum Chambord 5-Ounce Milk Frother]and got a very different product. The bottom of the frother is plastic and mesh. It does not fit tightly in the beaker. It does not froth. I called Bodum to complain, and they seem to know it does not work very well. After my complaining loudly, they said they would send me a gasket to use which would make a tighter fit. I no longer advise buying this product.
Great product for the money September 9, 2008 I purchased this after my rechargeable Bon Jour frother died within a couple of months--just couldn't justify another $39 to make a latte. I actually had pretty low expectations, but that was quickly corrected when I used it. It is very easy to use, makes great froth and easy to clean. I've tried it starting with cold milk, frothing and then heating as well as heating then frothing and the results are similar--although frothing cold milk then heating seems to create a little more froth. If you have a few extra minutes, let it sit after you froth and it is even better! Although I love the product and would recommend, I thought I would note three issues: 1) milk comes up out of the top hole (where the plunger goes in and out) as you froth and can make a bit of a mess--runs down the side. 2) The froth can sometimes be too thick and essentially like a meringue. I haven't figured out whether that is something I'm doing differently or the frother (btw, I use 2% milk). 3) the glass container seems very thin and I'm on pins and needles that I'll inadvertently knock it over. That said, I'd definitely buy again.
