Amazon.com Review Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven Baking Stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the 14-inch stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat, to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures. Wait until the baking stone is entirely cooled before attempting to clean it. Let it dry completely before using again. Some discoloration will occur over time; this is natural and will not affect baking. Using baking parchment may help delay that discoloration. Do not bake cookies, turnovers or other high-fat items on the stone; the stone would absorb the fat and proceed to produce smoke and bad odors. The stone comes with a flyer that contains detailed use and cleaning instructions, as well as recipes for bread, pizza dough, and two pizza toppings. --Garland Withers

Good value, does the job November 17, 2008 This is a really solid product for anyone looking to bake pizza or bread in the oven. I purchased this after buying the book Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking. This stone works great for baking the few types of bread that I've made, and I've also cooked pizza on it.
1st one arrived broken...exchange was EASY and stone is great, buy one! October 15, 2008 Several people have left poor reviews because the stone arrived broken. I have had good experiences with Amazon and decided to risk it. Sure enough, my first stone arrived in 2 pieces, split down the middle. I filled out an exchange request online that evening and had my new stone within a few days - it's been living in my oven for a week now, made pizza twice, focaccia once and is as good as the happy reviewers indicate. Manufacturer says stone will harden with use - don't let concern about breakage sway you, this is a fine stone and it is trivial to exchange if it arrives broken.
Arrived broken, as with many other reviewers July 28, 2008 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I do my best to purchase everything through Amazon.com (I get points back from my Amazon Visa :)
I had seen that some people complained that their pizza stone arrived broken. I rolled the dice and lost. It arrived cracked in half, quite useless.
I'm curious what percentage of this item actually arrives at the customer in one piece. It looks good, and those who receive it seem to like it. I just suggest anyone purchasing it be comfortable with the idea of returning the item as well.
Very disappointed! April 30, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Before buying this product I read other reviews and some of them wrote that it was broken when delivered.I thought that it wont happen with me.But I was very disappointed .I received the product in two pieces. It was so hard to manage that i had to throw it away the same day I received .When I received the packet ,I was surprised at the lousy packaging ,and immediately thought no wonder why the stone broke into two pieces.I would not suggest anyone to buy this stone.
Yes April 17, 2008 I was so tired of my crusts ssticking, and finding the right timeing on when to take pizza's out. This ston e works great everything cooks even, looks better than delivery, and once the stone is hot cooks real fast. My only complaint is that the stone's radius is about an inch to small, however if it was an inch greater I'd probably just make bigger pizzas.
