 Best Bird feeder I have ever had !! July 8, 2008
The Brome Bird Care Squirrel Buster Classic Bird Feeder is everything It was advertised to be!! I love it because it drives the squirrels nuts! They run up and down the tree everyday and all day thinking they must somehow be able to jump on this feeder and get at the seeds. The look at it from every angle and it is so funny as they are so frustrated! They used to get up there and leap to the other bird feeders I tried and hang on with one paw and pull themselves up and wiggle along the ledge and eat to their hearts content. I tried lowering it a bit thinking they couldn't jump the distance but they jumped 7 feet up off the ground and still got into the bird seed. My husband even put a sheet metal roof on it and they still were able to get on it.
None of this with the Brome. It's perfect. The birds are getting so much food they are getting fat! Now I have all different size birds, the small ones can attach themselves to the Brome at the smaller holes and the bigger ones use the larger perches.

We have so many squirrels, and they chew the feeder apart to get to the seed. With this feeder, we can enjoy the birds (ALL the birds) who come to our feeder. The doves and larger birds peck around in the spilled seed on the ground while the little guys fly in and out of the pine tree next to the feeder, taking turns on the perches. The mesh allows the clinging birds to feed as well. Any morning, we get about 30-50 different birds feeding and the squirrels don't even try any more. This feeder costs much less than the PLUS model, and it works great! It's easy to fill and it hangs by wire, so the squirrels are just out of luck!

...as there is no tension adjustment on this classic model, so you cannot 'fine-tune' it to reject larger 'pig' birds like starlings and the like. Also, unlike the Plus model which completely closes off the feed port then weighted down, this classic model has a coarse mesh that only partially blocks the feed port. It keeps the squirrels out, but the nuscence birds still are able to feast.
To be fair, Brome never claims this model can be adjusted nor do they recommend it to keep larger birds off the feeder.
So, if squirrels are your only problem, this less expensive model will indeed fit your need. If you are looking for more control over who is working your feeder, spend the extra money for the Plus model.
