Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The word toast comes from the Latin Torrere, Tostum - to scorch or burn. Toast was originally used as a method of preserving bread. Soldiers at war would be given scorched bread - almost like a cracker - to make sure that the bread was palatable and a source for nourishment while marching and dwelling from one place to another. Unlike the loaf-like breads that developed in Europe, earlier breads were flat - similar to the traditional breads found in Macedonia, Babylon, Egypt, and Judaea.
As the leavening process was discovered and practiced, around the 17th century, loaf-like breads began to develop. Old breads were typically fried and are the likely origins of French Toast.
Hamilton Beach has been a leader in the development of electric toasters in the United States. The 24121 4-Slice Toaster offers a quick, easy, adjustable method to toast breads, muffins, rolls, pop-tarts, and frozen waffles. It's a handy, quick way to prepare breakfast and snacks. Like our ancestors, we continue to enjoy toast bread and we are fortunate that we can get this practical, stylish, and safe toaster from Hamilton Beach.
