Amazon.com Review If top-shelf Henckels knives will break your bank, you can still get high-quality performance and construction with the mid-range Henckels Gourmet line. A full-size collection, this 18-piece set thoroughly outfits a chef, as well as eight steak dinner guests. Each Gourmet knife is stamped from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel, honed by hand, and hardened by the Friodur ice process, for maximum strength and stain-resistance. These knives boast a full tang, which is triple-riveted to a contoured handle made of Novadur polypropylene. This construction is impact-resistant, comfortable to hold, and durable. Complete with its own storage block, the set includes a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 6-inch utility knife, an 8-inch chef's knife, an 8-inch carving knife, and an 8-inch bread knife, as well as a meat fork and eight steak knives. A 9-inch steel for sharpening, a pair of kitchen shears, and an instructional knife-skills video are also included. The set is safe for the dishwasher, but washing by hand is recommended. Henckels 18pc Knife set w/block January 18, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
The set of knives is outstanging. Howerver, there were only 16pc in the set (inc block). Missing two of the larger knives. Another Christmas disappointment.
Cheapo and poor quality- don't buy December 13, 2007 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
My husband and I have been researching for over a year for a nice heavy duty block and quality knife set and this is not it. Not only does it look cheap, not all the knives fit in the slots in the block. We currently own a cheap no-name set that we were looking to upgrade with this Henckels set but our no-name set is better quality and better looking than this set! We expected a lot more for $300.. don't waste your money. The previous comments on this item couldn't possibly have received what we got.
Fantastic intermediate knife set November 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the knife set for my partner as a birthday gift. The gift itself went down a storm and since having it in the house we have both been looking for reasons to use it more and more. It's first test was cooking a meal for 7 people on thanksgiving and it more than surpassed our expectations. The different knives work great on whatever the task at hand, whether it was on the vegetables on on carving the turkey itself. In addition, the kitchen shears are great for cutting meats as well as for helping get in to those over zealousely sealed packages of cocktail sausages, etc. On the whole, this set deserves 12 out of 10 and while we might upgrade to the premier set (with an additional couple of hudred bucks) in the future, this is a wonderful set which is probably our most favourtie thing in the kitchen. However, my only issue with it is that when you lift the block, you have to be careful not to cut yourself as the steak knives poke out of the bottom. This said, however, I am not planning on moving it often, and the next time will be to cook dinner at the inlaws for xmas dinner...and we can't wait.
Great knife set but block leaves a lot to be desired August 31, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was looking for nice quality knife set to replace a cheap Farberware set I've had for a few years. I've read about the quality of the Henckel's knives but knew that if I wanted a decent set, I'd have to spend some money. I checked the reviews on a lot of different sets and found that this set was the most highly rated and wouldn't break the bank like the Pro-S block set. I was able to pick up two $50 Amazon gift cards and bring the price down to $199. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the quality of the knives and how sharp they were right out of the box. The instructional video was a bonus. However, the block that is supplied with this quality set is unbelievably cheap. Why they would allow the lower row of the steak knives to protrude over a half inch below the block is beyond me. They will scratch and gouge any countertop within a very short time. I did not want to go out and spend another $40+ on another block, so I simply went to my local hardware store and purchased the nail on rubber feet you use for furniture and placed them on the front of the block set. It looks great and now the front row of steak knives don't drag. I would have given this set a 5 star rating if it wasn't for this poor design and flaw.
tomates are the test for this knifes July 20, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I absolutely love these knifes. They are steady, balanced and the blade can cut anything you desire. I ussually test knifes by cutting ripe tomatos, it slice's them without making a puree, then I can guarantee they are great! I truly love them. However, I do not like the wooden block, it has holes on the bottom and some knifes go through marking your granite or any counter top.
