Amazon.com Review
No stovetop is complete without a charming teakettle, and this Farberware Classic Tiburon makes a handsome as well as useful fixture. Created from corrosion-resistant, high-quality stainless steel, the kettle features an attractive bell shape with a flared bottom for efficient burner coverage and faster heating. It whistles clearly when water boils, and the lever-controlled spout locks open with a simple flip for easy pouring and filling. The kettle also fills through the tidy top lid. Farberware uses a stay-cool synthetic to make the piece's handles, arcing the top one high for finger clearance. One design element to note here--lifting and spout-flipping are possible to perform with one hand (flip down the lever with your thumb and pick up the pot) though not as simple as the trigger-style spouts on some kettles. Polished to a mirror-finish, this kettle keeps its shine with a little bit of standard maintenance. Measuring 8-1/2 inches in diameter, it stands 9 inches high. --Emily Bedard

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price   November 19, 2008
I've had this tea kettle for 4 years and it is still working fine. No parts have broken, the whistle starts of low then quickly builds in volume, and it remains shiny. The handle never seems hot to me at all, not by a long shot. It also seems to boil water very quickly. That said, I am usually only boiling the equivalent of a cup or two at a time. The one time I filled the kettle to the brink, it did take a while to boil. I still didn't notice the handle heating up any, but I can see how theoretically that might happen if the kettle had to be on the fire a long time to heat a full kettle of water.

I'm frankly quite surprised by the amount of negative comments and am wondering if something has changed in the manufacture of the kettle so that new purchasers are getting a worse kettle than I got 4 years ago. I came on here to buy another one simply because I am noticing some discoloration at the bottom of the kettle (because I accidentally left it on the fire with the whistle lid open, so that it burned the kettle after the water was all gone). Not sure if it is a health hazard, but for only $20, why take a chance.

Though I probably shouldn't deduct a star on that account, since I am the one who burned the kettle by forgetting to close the lid and then forgetting I'd left it on the stove, I can't quite bring myself to give a perfect rating to a kettle I have to replace after only 4 years. I think if it was thicker steel it still wouldn't have been so damaged by the time I could smell the burning, but who knows. Anyway, if you're looking to get a decent kettle for $20, this one is a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Still a good idea . .   November 8, 2008
I got a set of Farberware cookware as a wedding gift in 1968. Thanks to Barkeeper's Friend, each piece still looks as good as it did when new, and I am still using them all. I've added a few pieces over the years, so I thought this tea kettle would be a good purchase. Well, it got knocked off the stove onto the floor, after 2 years, and the plastic handle broke. Then it fell off a year later and got a dent! So I am now getting ready to buy a new one. I cannot see anything better for the price, so I'll buy another. All in all, I've been happy with it. Mostly I use it to boil water to pour on weeds in the spaces between my pavers on the driveway and patio. Boiling water totally kills weeds and is non-toxic. For tea water I use my Sunbeam Hot Shot, an amazing machine.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price -- Not great   September 14, 2008
For $19.99, this isn't a bad tea kettle. I would, however, consider going with something a few dollars more expensive.

The kettle has a very wide base, which seems to help in heating quickly, however the metal is so thin I'm not convinced it's conducting the heat very well.

Additionally, the handle (plastic) seems to get quite hot. I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

The spout is somewhat clunky to open, however it seems to whistle reasonably well.

I'm happy with my purchase, for the price, but i'm considering finding a more expensive tea pot in the future. I don't expect this one will last too long.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't Last - Self-Destructing   August 2, 2008
I've used this teakettle every day for a few months. First the inside was just corroding away, even with rinsing and emptying. Then, the whistle stopped working. Then the handle cracked. That was it. Threw it out. I guess I got my money's worth, but it's not one to last any length of time at all.
