It Blew Up! June 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mine blew up after, maybe, an hour. It did burn the food, yes; but, worse was it really popped. I had similar number of guests yesterday, about 30. Glass pieces ended up on the food, the table, and the floor. It was REALLY embarrassing. I guess I get what I pay for.
I think what caused the explosion was the black soot that accumulated on the spot where the candle was burning. The soot might have caused the glass to reach the temperature beyond its tempered state. Thus, it blew up. Cleaning it up every now and then would be the advisable thing to do but this defeats the purpose of using a chafing dish, other than serving a warm dish - freeing the hosts of additional chores.
Sorry, but it's just fair to publish this.
Do NOT buy this product!!! December 18, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I would give this product no stars, but I was forced to give it one because it wouldn't let me give it 0. This doesn't even qualify for 1 star!! I bought this on sale at a major kitchen store thinking I was getting a bargain. The whole design is very poorly done. It is very dangerous to put a lighted candle directly under a glass dish!!! What were they thinking?? I should have gone w/ my instinct when I first bought this and wondered how it would work without burning everything. Imagine my embarassment when I bought 2 of these to keep food warm at a gathering of 30 plus people, and it started smoking, and the glass dish and the food in the dish were burned where the candle was! Did anyone test drive this equipment before they put it on the market!! Shame on them for selling such a hunk of junk!!
