Cheerfully uniting form and function, this roaster is a welcome addition to Kitchenaid's color-themed kitchen appliances and cook's tools. The roomy 18-1/2-inch rectangular shape features deep sides and large end handles covered in smooth, glossy porcelain that juxtaposes a clean white interior and richly toned exterior. The porcelain plays a dual role: it helps to promote even heat distribution and temperature retention while in the oven and also offers an attractive finish that makes a lovely presentation at the table. Around the rim of the roaster appear the edges of the solid steel core. This metal layer reinforces the roaster for strength and also heats quickly and uniformly, so there are no hot or cold spots. Perfect for medium- to large-sized cuts of meat or whole turkeys, the roaster comes with a removable stainless steel rack that elevates the meat and allows sauces and juices to drip to the bottom when basting. Both the pan and the rack go safely into the dishwasher. Pretty durned good November 18, 2008
I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this, but I'm so happy to have a great big roasting pan that doesn't weigh a ton, and that doesn't have "non-stick" surface to go to pot ... AND came at an extremely reasonable price. It is a little difficult to clean -- though a soft-scrub cleanser (I use Barkeeper's Friend) seems to work pretty well. And it looks beautiful again, when cleaned up, so it's worth the extra effort. It cooks great, though, and that's Job One, as they used to say. Yeah, I could have spent 2X(+) more for a high-end stainless pan, and I might be 5% happier with that. For the value, I am VERY satisfied with this purchase. I DO wish that KitchenAid had provided more information with it, however. (There was virtually nothing with the product about how to use or clean it.) I have no idea what its heat limitations are, nor were they any suggestions about keeping it clean. But I'm just using good sense with it, and that seems to work.
