Good as a fill in for Angel Hair only July 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have one of these (not sure which name, but same idea). I was without a stove for a period of time, and found that this filled in fine. I discovered that it does a reasonable job with angel hair pasta, somewhat acceptable with thin spaghetti, and unacceptably sticky, etc. with regular spaghetti. The quality is never up to the level of pasta cooked in a large pot, but was still fine with me. It takes time, first to boil water (in a separate electrical device I used), and then about 12 or 13 minutes in this thing, again for the angel hair. (Thicker takes longer.) As for cracks that some other people have mentioned, there are lots of little cracks all over on the outside of the device, but it's solid on the inside. One other concern. I've been reading a lot about the dangers of certain plastics, and the meaning of the ratings on them, numbers inside of a triangle on the bottom, with some people warning about using a plastic device with a rating of 7. I just checked my version of this, and it has a rating of 7, so according to some people, it's not the most healthy thing to cook your food in. I just put in an order here for a Fasta Pasta, theoretically should be better and safer based on what I've read. But this did get me by for a long time when I needed it!
not a safe product May 31, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am surprised I am not hearing more comments about this product in regards to the cracking. I bought mine a while back and used it about 5 times and loved it. Then I started noticing a couple of cracks in the plastic so I put it away. Then one day I wanted to make a small amount of pasta so I dug it out. I poured the boiling water in over the pasta and in a few seconds it started cracking more and leaking - I put the thermal thing on it and carefully set it in the sink in case it broke completely This product is dangerous and soon we will hear of someone suing after getting third degree burns from boiling water after it explodes in someone's hands. I think maybe this product is so cheap that people just figure oh well and throw it away. Also it is basically only good for a small amount of long pasta - I tried pasta shells in it and they just floated and didn't cook right. It's good for asparagus too. If you try to cook a large box of long pasta in it it doesn't seem to cook right. Aside from all that - the fact that it can't handle repeated use with boiling water makes it a poorly tested, unsafe gimmick. Most of the As Seen On TV products that I have tried are garbage anyway. I just don't buy them anymore.

If I could give this product a 0 I would have. Upon poring hot water into the instant pasta cooker, it cracked in several places spilling boiling hot water onto my hands. The cooker was not damaged or cracked in any way before the hot water went in. All I can say is be warned and careful using this product.

With all the hype of the Pasta Express on television, and in so many homes, there are definitely bound to have been a spinoffs. This is no acception, with the Pasta Magic. It is a very convient, and simple way for you cook anything from vegetables like brocoli and carrots, to pasta of all kinds like ravioli and egg noodles. It is very convient and easy to use. All you do is put your food into the plastic bin, place the thermal wrap around the bin, pour boiling water into the bin, and within about 10 minutes, your food is done to near perfection. Unlike the pasta express however, you get more than one pasta maker, you have a smaller one for convience for single portions, and for making frankfurters. If you want a nice and easy way to make pasta, than this is the item for you.
