Does A Perfect Job November 15, 2008 The Alligator works perfectly. You only need to cut a large onion in half and place the flat side on the grid. Cup one hand over the grate and press the handle down firmly with the dicer on a solid surface. Presto! You have perfectly diced onion on a single pass and few of the pieces fly out of your hand. A real time saver, solidly built, easy to clean, and worth the money. When I needed crushed pineapple and found I had only canned slices, one ring at a time it produced perfect crushed pineapple. Problem solved. I can't wait to try it on other fruits and vegetables. Buy it!
Still Great September 30, 2008 I have been using this for 3 years and it still is the best way to chop large amounts of Onions quickly, hit it hard and don't use old onions, Enjoy!
Use it Regularly... July 1, 2008 It isn't perfect, but I just love it. You do need to slam it down pretty hard, and sort of cup your hand around the product so it doesn't fly all over, but it makes such nice quarter inch dices for onions, shallots, etc. For tomato dices, be sure to put the skin side down (cut into fairly small pieces) and give it a good whack, but it works for that too. Don't know what it is, but it's one of my favorite kitchen gadgets.
nice dicing but requires strength May 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
we really like the size and the convenience but it does take considerable effort to push the grid over the onion/apple (all we have tried so far). Worrisome mostly b/c we fear breaking it when pressing down... pressure on both sides of grid (not ON the grid) helps. I can't see HOW you could use it as shown in the picture!! LOL! Cut into slices, works great. You are still cutting with a knife but it takes the tediousness out of the dicing which is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Throwing in the dishwasher to wash is AWESOME (remember to wash plastic grid by hand though!)
has shortcomings April 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this based on the positive reviews and high rating it received. I think it was a little inflated. You have to be sure to take off the top rubbery layers of the onion as it won't cut through them very well. Then you have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to cut because it's not a very sturdy product. Also, if you push down too quickly, the onion pieces will spring out onto the counter. I do like the little insert that goes on the non-cutter side, which makes it easier to clean. I would not recommend using this product for anything harder than an onion. I like it better now that I figured out the quirks, but you should know up front that it's got some problems
