I prefer glass because you know that no xeno-estrogens are going to be leeching from plastic into your drinks - and glass is easy to clean and it doesn't get warped in the dishwaster - BUT, I prefer plastic tumblers when my friends with kids come to visit - I have have concrete floors and a dropped glass is never fun, as shards go everywhere.

When these tumblers are new, they really look classy - for plastic tumblers, anyway.

I have a legally blind family member who frequently drops things - another good reason for plastic. I bought a set of these tumbers and after only 4 months of occasional use and top rack washing, there are visible cracks in the plastic all along the sides.

One of them cracked so badly in the washer, it leaked and I had to put it in plastic recycling. None of these tumblers had yet been dropped - I just use them as a preventative measure - but the "dishwasher safe" notice must mean only in cold water, because even in the top rack, they don't last very long. For the ones that just show cracks, but don't leak, I can't help but wonder what xeno-estrogen chemicals are leeching into my iced tea or other beverages?

I think next time I will try stainless steel!
