Like the handcuff king it's named for, the Metrokane Houdini lever-style corkscrew works so easily it practically defies explanation. The Houdini was designed by the innovative company that created the Rabbit corkscrew, and is both simple and effortless to use. Just close the side handles over the neck of the bottle, pull up, and--voila!--the cork's removed. Another up-and-down movement pops the cork off the corkscrew. Metrokane corkscrews are independently tested for 20,000 cork pulls; tests assume replacement of the spiral after 1,000 pulls. Made with durable all-metal gear parts, the Houdini works with any size wine bottle. Its polycarbonate handles are ergonomically-designed and finished with a polished luster.  Very Cool! October 19, 2008
Very easy to use, and doesn't break the cork. Maybe I've bought my last corkscrew for myself. Definately a great gift idea.
Houdini corkscrew July 7, 2008
Solid product; very easy to use. My only problem thus far, has been with removing the cork from the corkscrew. Nonetheless, compared with other corkscrews, this one is excellent!

I was really surprised at all the negative or lukewarm reviews until I looked at the dates: these are mostly from 2002-2003, and the most recent one I saw was 2004. Half a decade later, the Houdini is MUCH improved. Mine is a champ, and opens every bottle flawlessly and quickly. I drink wine EVERY DAY, so it has to work continuously, and it does. While some five-year old reviews talk of wobblies or weak joints, this is no longer true. The 2008 Houdini is solid! It also now comes with it's own case (rubber handle retainer included), so you don't have to worry about storage issues. I'm a hard-core wine aficionado, and this is a superb opener. I can't think of any way they could improve it.

Nice product and easy to use. Girlfriend has no problems using this item compared to a normal cork screw. Highly recommend.

This thing works very well. It does take up some room in the drawer but if you drink wine it is definitely worth. Made very well
