Amazon.com Review Made in Austria by the world's most renowned wine- and spirits-glass maker (Riedel Crystal, founded in 1756), the two graceful glasses in this set from Riedel's Vinum series are ideal for sipping grappa. Flute-shaped to minimize evaporation and fumes, the glasses permit delicate aromas to be detected while precisely directing a narrow, pointed flow onto that area of the tongue where the harmonious fruit and mineral components of grappa can be appreciated. The glasses are machine-blown of 24 percent lead crystal and conform to Riedel's exacting standards: they're colorless, transparent, and thin-walled, and their lips are cut and polished so grappa flows smoothly onto the tongue. Each glass has a capacity of 3-1/2 ounces, stands 8 inches high, and has a 2-inch-wide mouth. Riedel crystal is used in fine restaurants all over the world and thus must stand up to frequent trips through a dishwasher. But because lead crystal has a soft, coarse surface to convey intense aromas, Riedel recommends the glasses be hand washed. --Fred Brack
