1 out of 5 stars sharp looks, dull performance   November 16, 2008
you are basically paying for the exterior design, but toaster doesn't do the job. In mine is only one side working ok, the other is just burning bread in the middle while edges remain soft. And it's slow too.
Spend your money elsewhere folks.

5 out of 5 stars I just love this toaster   October 14, 2008
You just tap the button top if you need to pop up the post rather than pull the lever up, has adjustable sizes for bagels etc, cleans up nice. I like the crumb tray

1 out of 5 stars Keep your receipt and box ! - and everyone go to oster site and call to complain   July 14, 2008

I would suggest people go to oster's website and grab the customer service 800# and call and complain regarding a known trusted name like Oster making such CRAP. As consumers you must take the time to tell these companies we won't tolerate such junk at high prices when we buy a toaster or a vacuum or any other item!

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. I've wanted a new toaster, preferably a 4 slice long toaster simply because I use a lot of long breads that won't fit into these dang 2 slot types (italian and rye breads just don't fit).

I never found one I liked and I'm not paying $[...] to $[...] for a dang toaster.... it makes toast!

I was in Target today and saw the prettiest, cutest lil toaster I've ever seen. I decided I had to have it, then came home to check amazon, to see reviews and pricing etc. and, if it comes in a long version /4 slice type (it does).

The reviews were sad to see... we are seeing more and more product reviews online from all of us buying stuff that is poorly made.

THE PLUS SIDE-
This toaster is the prettiest thing, no picture does it justice including the ugly pic on the box it comes in. It is nail polish deep bright red, slightly metalized and has a shiny pearl look to it.. it's just beautiful, a real show piece. well that's the end of the pluses i can think of!

The instructions say you need to run it once with no bread to burn off any materials still on the metal brackets. The first 2 times I ran it it smoked (as the book said it would but they said only one time run it).. well I wanted to run it a few times to get rid of smoke and smell and make sure it works (since reviews are so bad.

The first 2x it smoked, but still smelled so I ran it 2 more times.. still smelled. I ran it again and then went outside to hose patio due to rain storm that left things muddy.. I was out there maybe 20 minutes (?). I came inside only to find the toaster button STILL IN THE DOWN POSITION AND THE BURNER RODS ABLAZEN! It had been running for that 20 mins or more... I could not get the knob to come up. I had to unplug it to stop it.

The toaster was so hot that 40 mins later it was still somewhat warm.

I stood there and tried it a few more times ( no bread still) and it works ok so far... bagel button didn't want to work, i tried holding it down at the same time i pushed the handle down and then it took (i wanted to see how it works, if it works on all 4 buttons)..

This toaster gets too hot. Also the smell doesn't go away. I think it's because where the handle is (that you push down), the slit is open so far that you can see right into the toaster and see the hot rods.. I believe the wide opening is over heating the decorative black trim on the outside of the toaster (which looks like some kind of a rubber/plastic product) and this is what I'm smelling each time.. the slot is open so far it's heating up the exterior of the toaster where the knob is. and again, the toaster just remains too hot during and after use imo.

It is super pretty.. I'll hold onto it cautiously with the box and receipt close by, and tomorrow I'm going to see what warranty info I need to fill out to make sure I'm covered (even if I keep it a month or more)..

In the meantime, my little cheap $[...] toaster I got from Walmart about 3 years ago (with a convenient pull out tray from the front instead of the back), will remain in my possession, and probably stay on the sink while I decide whether I want to continue to give this lil red engine another try.

The fact it stayed on for over 20 mins while I was outside makes this an extreme fire hazard.. Do NOT use it unattended!

1 out of 5 stars Buy at your own risk !!   June 6, 2008
The Amazon reviews are mixed, and for good reason. Mine arrived with a couple small scratches in the otherwise very cool candy-apple red surface. Oh well. But the really bad news was yet to come. After doing the suggested burn-in (one cycle with no bread - and yep, there really is a noxious odor from that), I set the darkness control to about 4.5 (ranges from 1 to 7). Burnt, completely burnt. So I set it down to 3.5. Burnt again. 2.5 - barely brown. 3 - burnt. And, as other reviews note, it doesn't toast evenly on both sides. One reviewer thought that was great; I think it sucks. I guess Oster is owned by Sunbeam, and who knows who owns them, but these products that are thrown together in China or elsewhere where they pay $.02/hr for labor can hardly be expected to be reliable, can they? Aint the global economy f'in' wonderful?!

1 out of 5 stars Burned to a crisp   June 2, 2008
Oster 6307 Inspire 2-Slice Toaster, Red

Why is it that we can send a man to the moon, but can't build a reliable toaster?

The item I purchased was as follows:
PRO: Beautiful red color, reasonable construction and packaging. Plenty of room in the slots for bagels or thick-sliced bread. Nice row of indicator lights.
CON: Performance was terrible. From the mid-point on the dial down to the number 2 setting, one side of the bread was brown and the other assorted shades of black. The lowest number produced nothing. I wearied of wasting bread and returned the toaster.
Based on other user reviews, quality-control is very inconsistent-you may get a good one, then again, you may not. Hope you fare better than we did.
