Product Description
The current fashion for adding the position of COO to executive teams leads Stuart Crainer to ask: What, exactly, does a COO do, and how can CEOs ensure that the addition of this number-two spot really adds value to the team? Co-founder of Suntop Media, with Des Dearlove, Stuart Crainer is the author of The Management Century, The Ultimate Business Library, and numerous other books. Suntop Media draws on a global network of researchers, editors, and writers to present innovative thinking on timely business issues. 1 out of 5 stars Not worth your dollars   August 7, 2003

This PDF download is nothing more than *extremely* light, couple page, anecdote regarding the role of the COO. I found it both lacking in content and insight. With extremely large print, and being only 5 pages long, it appears to be more a "teaser" that would appear before a substantive discussion of the topic in a magazine, rather than an article itself. This is the first time I've posted a review to Amazon, and I felt compelled to do so because of the very poor quality of this product. Amazon don't destroy your reputation for quality product with e-articles of this extremely poor caliber. Readers - don't waste your money on this. Even at the low price offered this is not worth your time or money.

5 out of 5 stars Important of-the-moment reading   November 26, 2001

My company (fewer than 50 employeees) had been considering adding a COO in hopes of moving to the next level. After reading this article, we put it on the back burner for now and added some responsibilities for various team leaders. I can't predict how it's going to turn out, but we're saving a lot of money and are making a number of our senior people happy by giving them more of a career path. This short article is full of major points to ponder-- and we didn't need to devote a week each to reading a book on the subject.
